I've had the opportunity to counsel many new breastfeeding mothers. Some mothers are very fortunate to have an easy go, pretty much right away. But for most of us we need a little help! A Certified Lactation Consultant is the best for professional help.

If you find your newborn appears to be reacting to your breastmilk or seems to show signs of a gassy tummy, it may be the foods you are eating. It may also be that your baby needs more time burping after a feed. Here are my suggested dietary edits that have worked for my own breastfed children, and other new moms, for the newborn's first 8 weeks.

Essentially, limit gas-forming foods and foods in the citrus category, along with extra time and attention to burping after feeds. Hopefully this will give you and your newborn relief.
